KENYA TRIP 2023 - DAY 1

KENYA TRIP 2023 - DAY 1

We arrived in Kenya today after a very long flight, much dragging of luggage, and a few trips through security and then customs. It is amazing that our planes flew at speeds over 500 mph, and yet, it still required two flights with the second leg taking 13 hours to arrive in Kenya. It makes me realize how huge this world is that God has made, and yet, He controls it all.

We settled into the house where will be staying and then drove around the city to do a little shopping. This was a planned activity to keep us awake until the evening so we can adapt to the Kenya time zone. As our driver, David drove us around the city, we were excited to see baboons on the side of the road (and to see zebras in the distance on our earlier drive from the airport), as well as experience driving on the left side of the road through intense traffic and throngs of people.

David also took us to Kobe Tough. This is a business that provides work and a source of income for Maasai women who create clay beads and hand-sewn leatherwork and beading. We enjoyed seeing the ladies work, and they even treated the group to a spontaneous song and dance. After dinner, we all retired early to try to make up for the lack of sleep the last couple of days. Tomorrow we will head to AIC Zion School!!

Today was our last full day in the DR, as we depart in the morning tomorrow. While a few people worked on setting up equipment in the sensory room, the remainder of us played outside with the kids and ran some sports and activities. When the teachers and kids looked out and saw us playing with parachutes, new bats and balls, water balloons, and more, the entire school came outside to play. It was a touching experience to play together with all these children of God.

At lunch, we gave gifts to the kitchen staff and thanked them for providing lunches for us at the school each day.

In the afternoon, we prepared the final touches for the sensory room. The finished room is shown below! Our team, along with the Kids Alive teachers, was thrilled to see the final result of 5 days of hard work to put it together.

To finish our last day here, we had dinner at the local hotel with all the teachers and administration at the Kids Alive school in Jarabacoa. We were blessed to communicate with them and learn about their families and lives outside of teaching at the school.

Overall, it was a bittersweet day. We look forward to coming home and sharing our experiences with you all, but we will greatly miss our new friends here. We are already looking forward to another trip with the Kids Alive next year.

Hello church, family!

It was a beautiful Thursday in the Dominican. We are so blessed to be here. Thank you for your support and encouragement of our team as we support and encourage the Kids Alive ministry.

We began the morning with construction and repairs in the sensory room to prepare it for organization. We touched up the painting to make the room look spotless.

Felicity and Christian joined the high school students in their volleyball PE class in the afternoon while Naomi and Darlene did the third teacher training to encourage the Kids Alive staff.

We went to the pharmacy in the afternoon and used our team funds to purchase essential medical supplies, including hydrogen peroxide, bandages, gauze, and basic medications for the school at Jarabacoa. Becky, our team’s pediatric nurse, provided wound care for multiple children who had infections at the school and referred them to a clinic to obtain prescribed medications. It was truly a blessing for us to be able to provide medical supplies and care for children directly.

We took the Kids Alive missionaries out to dinner and then meditated on God’s word in the evening as Brad led us through a powerful devotion.

We are looking forward to our last full day of service here tomorrow!

In His Love,
Naomi, Brad, Dilo, Brad, Becky, Felicity, Darlene, and Christian

Good evening from your church family in the Dominican Republic!

We began this beautiful morning by covering books for the school library and setting up equipment in a sensory room. In fact, today, we had children sample the equipment in the sensory room for the first time!

At noon, we did club with the high school students. First, we played kickball, and then Brad led the students in a devotion. Finally, we shared a snack and then headed to lunch with the high school students on their new outdoor patio.

In the afternoon, we visited the Ark, which is the residential facility of Kids Alive where they take in children from the community who have no one to take care of them and are oftentimes victims of abuse, neglect, trafficking, and more. We visited a few of the house parents, who take care of the children in homes in the Ark and raise them as part of a family.

We finished the day by visiting with a few children at the local Haitian tutoring center, where disadvantaged students come after school for a snack and extra help with schoolwork. Most importantly, they are fed with the gospel of Jesus.

Your prayers for our team are greatly appreciated. We are passionately sharing the message of Jesus and working to be an encouragement to the children, teachers, and staff around us at Kids Alive.

Thank you, TBC!
Your family in the Dominican,
Dilo, Naomi, Darlene, Glenn, Becky, Felicity, Brad, and Christian

Hello to our friends, family, and supporters at TBC! Our third day serving in the Dominican Republic was a blessing and encouragement to the Palo Blanco community as well as our entire team.

In the morning, we joined the children at Anija, a Kids Alive Pre-K—9th-grade school in “downtown” Jarabacoa. We joined them in a Spanish singing of “Stand up, Stand Up for Jesus”, and then the Dominican national anthem during the flag raising. Finally, we joined the children in a morning prayer before the school day.

During the day, we did another preschool workshop in which we did a story, craft, activity, and snack all centered around the Biblical story of Noah! We were blessed to interact with the children and simply have fun with them. The men painted a second coat in the sensory room and then began assembling the equipment, as shown below.

In the evening, we had a candlelit team dinner because the power was out! It created a beautiful bonding experience where we shared our challenges and highlights from the day.

We finished the night with our daily devotion on the back porch of the team home.

Again, thank you for your daily prayers for our team and for the people we are serving. We appreciate your support. We could not do this without you!

Blessings from the DR!
Dilo, Naomi, Brad, Glenn, Darlene, Christian, Becky, and Felicity
